Liberal pundit compares Palin to Muslim terrorists

Salon.com contributor Juan Cole dropped the following bombshell recently:

“But the values of his handpicked running mate, Sarah Palin, more resemble those of Muslim fundamentalists than they do those of the Founding Fathers. On censorship, the teaching of creationism in schools, reproductive rights, attributing government policy to God's will and climate change, Palin agrees with Hamas and Saudi Arabia rather than supporting tolerance and democratic precepts. What is the difference between Palin and a Muslim fundamentalist? Lipstick.”

This passage is, on its face, so ludicrous that I’m tempted to believe Cole wrote it as a tongue-in-cheek piece of satire.

Cole obviously needs to get his historical ducks in a row before going hunting. I would daresay Palin’s views on the above issues line up rather closely with the Founding Fathers.

Can anyone say – with a straight face – that the Founding Fathers would believe freedom of speech covers the shameful displays of filth that are conducted under the term “Gay Pride march”? Would they have tolerated the burning of the American flag under the guise of free speech? Would they have smiled benignly at adults and children spouting off all types of vile words, excusing it as their inalienable “right”?

And what about creationism? Darwin’s seminal book, On the Origin of Species, was not even published until 1859… decades after the founding of our country. Creationism was the dominant view of the Founding Fathers, not evolution. In fact, Massachusetts Congressman Fisher Ames – who suggested the wording of the First Amendment – said, “We have a dangerous trend beginning to take place in our education. We're starting to put more and more textbooks into our schools... We are spending less time in the classroom on the Bible, which should be the principle text in our schools... The Bible states these great moral lessons better than any other manmade book.”

And, Mr. Cole, what does the Bible teach? That’s right… creationism. So for Cole to claim that Palin’s views on creationism are somehow out of synch with George Washington, Patrick Henry, and John Adams proves this: that Cole himself is out of synch with history.

And then we have “reproductive rights” (the sanitized term for infanticide). Where does Cole come up with the idea that the Founding Fathers somehow were champions of ripping unborn babies from their mothers’ wombs? The “right” to abortion wasn’t even “discovered” in the Constitution for 186 years! Had the Founding Fathers been attuned to “reproductive justice,” I think abortion would have been the law of the land since day one.

Cole then goes on to ridicule what he calls Palin’s “attributing government policy to God's will.” Again, how is this different from the Founding Fathers? Did they not often speak out, imploring God for His direction and that they might follow it?

George Washington was no stranger to attributing to God his successes in life. Following the defeat of the British forces at Fort Duquesne during the French and Indian War, the future first President had this to say:

“As I have heard since my arrival at this place, a circumstantial account of my death and dying speech, I take this early opportunity of contradicting the first and assuring you that I have not as yet composed the latter. But by the all powerful dispensations of Providence, I have been protected beyond all human probability or expectation; for I had four bullets through my coat, and two horses shot under me yet escaped unhurt, although death was leveling my companions on every side of me!”

In other words, Washington acknowledged that God spared his life on the battlefield!

But according to Cole, this “more resemble[s the beliefs] of Muslim fundamentalists…” than the Founding Fathers.

Uh, wait a second. George Washington WAS one of the Founding Fathers.

Go figure.

Cole attempts to tie Palin to the terrorist group Hamas and radical Islamic state Saudi Arabia by saying her beliefs line up with them rather than the Founding Fathers’ “tolerance and democratic precepts.”

Unfortunately, Cole’s version of tolerance and democratic precepts is one that calls for abortion on demand through all nine months of pregnancy, the “right” to spread pornography – even to children – under the guise of free speech, forcing the totally unproven theory of evolution down the throats of every public school student in America, and jettisoning God from civic discourse.

Now, Cole posed the question, “What is the difference between Palin and a Muslim fundamentalist?” He then gave his answer: “Lipstick.” The real answer is this, “Sarah Palin’s ideas and policies line up with those of the Founding Fathers.”
